December 30, 1989: An Ethics Officer sends a telex regarding Karen Barter (formerly Karen Jentzsch, when she was married to Heber Jantzsch): "Dear Sue, do you know anything about Karen Barter in regards to handling her wish to have another child?" Mary Tabayoyon points to this telex as one small piece of evidence of Scientology's practice of deterring Sea Org members from having children.

September 5, 1989: Jody Darling faxes fellow Scientologist Albert Jaquier, acknowledging the receipt (two weeks ago) of $200,000 from Jaquier. In it, he proposes paying interest owed on the loan as a "business consulting fee," thus evading taxes.

August 31, 1989: The Oklahoma State Health Department applies for an injunction to halt Narconon's operations at Chilocco.

June 29, 1990: Narconon holds a grand opening ceremony in Chilocco; tickets have been sold for $2,000.00 apiece. The ceremony features a recognition ceremony for donors, a reception with "opinion leaders, celebrities, politicians and Native American leaders from around the United States," tours, an Indian Pow Wow, and Western barbeque. It's all designed, according to a flyer, to "help establish overwhelming public popularity for LRH." Its initial Certificate of Need will expire the following day.

October 27, 1989: A citizen writes to the CIA requesting information about the Academy of Religious Arts and Sciences and the Hubbard Guidance Center in Washington, D.C.: "I am interested in attending the school but must know that it is cleared through you before I do." The CIA responds that they have no "internal security functions," but the CIA forwards the letter to the FBI.

May 11, 1990: Noah Lottick jumps to his death clutching his last few dollars tightly to his chest. He is 24 years old. Before he killed himself, he had paid more than $5,000 for church counseling. His behavior had also become strange. He once remarked to his parents that his Scientology mentors could actually read minds. When his father suffered a major heart attack, Noah insisted that it was purely psychosomatic.

February 1, 1990: Tom Voltz begins negotiating with Ken Salman about obtaining rights to the personality test Scientology uses, having learned that Salman, not Scientology, owned those rights. (The test had been developed by his wife, Julia Lewis-Salman, who had since died.) Voltz wishes to grant RTC a free license to continue to use the test for Scientology purposes; Voltz plans to make money from the use of the test in commercial contexts. Over the next year, Scientology's response to Voltz's generous offer was to insist that he give up the rights he bought from Salman and to try to ruin Voltz financially. March 12, 1990: Scientologist Jody Darling sends fellow Scientologist Albert Jaquier a fax - from the office of the IAS. This is significant because Darling had received $200,000 from Jaquier, as a loan and to invest in Darling's company ... but instead Darling donated the money to Scientology in exchange for Patron Meritorious status.

June 29, 1988: Peter Frei is reported missing by a Scientology acquaintance. He will drown in the harbor the following day.

June 6, 1988: Leroy Bridges, an employee of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health, files a document with the Oklahoma Secretary of State's office in which he applies to reserve the name Treatment Development Corporation. Treatment Development Corp. was hired by Narconon International to help the Los Angeles based firm with its certificate of need application to open a Narconon center in Oklahoma. Bridges denies any wrongdoing, but his activities are probed by federal investigators.

It is also forbidden to transact ANY private business deals on the property of Flag Service Organization, Inc.(FSO). The ONLY reason it would be acceptable to IAS for Darling to use their office and equipment would be if they benefitted from his doing so."

August 5, 1989: Albert Jaquier signs a contract with fellow Scientologist Jody Darling, purchasing $100,000 in stock in Darling's company and lending $100,000 at 21.6% interest. Darling ends up using the money for a Scientology donation; the loan will never be repaid.

June 30, 1988: Peter Frei, missing from Scientology classes for a day or two, drowns in Clearwater Harbor.

July 23, 1989: Scientologist Jody Darling creates a proposal for fellow Scientologist Albert Jaquier. It is a lengthy, handwritten document asking Jaquier to "invest" in Pacific Training Systems. Included was one whole page detailing his Scientology credentials and naming CofS officials who could vouch for him. In the proposal he promised annual profits of 18-25% on the investment, quote " Our investment options give a return on the order of 18-25%". The proposal was in French since Albert did not speak English. Jaquier agrees to "invest" $200,000; $100,000 as purchase of "stock" and $100,000 as a loan at 21.6% interest (interest rate suggested by Darling). A contract will be signed on 5 August 1989, and Albert will arrange to transfer the money from Switzerland.

June 30, 1989: Narconon spokesman Gary Smith uses a 6-month-old letter of support from Newkirk mayor Garry Bilger to suggest to The Associated Press that the mayor supports Narconon.
