Date: December 6, 1945
One day after being mustered out of the US Naval Reserve, Hubbard submits a claim for a pension and disability benefits. He lists a long catalog of problems, though not, significantly, anything that could be described as a combat-related injury: malaria, a sprained knee, conjunctivitis, an ulcer, and arthritis. Strangely, his recurrent malaria had never previously been documented by Navy doctors.
