Source:
Date: February 10, 1956
FBI director J. Edgar Hoover responds to a letter sent to the FBI mentioning that Hubbard was distributing the brainwashing manual with a cover letter implying that the FBI had authorized him to do so. Hoover directs an agent to get a copy of Hubbard's letter containing the unauthorized use of the FBI's name. The memo also notes, "In regard to Hubbard himself, an inquiry was initiated on February 26, 1951, after information was received that he had been arrested in Chicago for kidnaping his wife and daughter and taking them out of the State of California. The U.S. Attorney, Los Angeles, instructed that no investigation should be undertaken."
