SHORTER-THAN-USUAL OVERLONG NARRATIVE:

I got to meet Brent Stone during my lunchtime picket in Mountain View on Thursday, bringing the total number of fellow picketers I've met to a whopping 5.

I had mentioned on the Bay Area SP mailing list that I hoped to picket Thursday, and when I arrived, Brent was there, decked out in his natty "Scientology Kills" t-shirt, pacing back and forth in front of the little strip mall that holds the Mountain View Dianetics center.

I wasn't wearing my usual red picketing jammies, so Brent didn't realize I was Jour until I crossed the street (jaywalking, a sure sign of an unethical SP) and introduced myself.

We had quite an uneventful picket. We mostly chatted. Since there was no foot traffic, there was no need to avoid clumping, so we stayed together and talked. We did have one pedestrian interaction: there's a motorcycle shop next to the strip mall, and a gentleman (probably the owner) came over, read my sign, and asked about our picket. We gave him some fliers and answered his questions.

I got to see Brent's cool van, with "Remember Lisa" and "www.xenu.net" prominently displayed in large letters.

As further proof of the criminal tendencies that all critics of Scientology are sure to have, I committed assault on poor Brent by accidentally tapping him with my sign. Of course, he pulled it in be being so much taller than me.

After about 50 minutes, I decided to get back to work. I thanked Brent for joining me and headed back to my client's office.

It was hard to gauge the effectiveness of this picket, but there were a lot of cars going by, and it was sure nice to meet Brent.
