On This Day in Scientology History - March 4
Hubbard and church leaders contend that he has resigned from the church's directorship, but that resignation seems to have made little difference. In a " policy letter" dated Sept. 1, 1966, the matter was ambiguously worded. Hubbard said that he was "resigning the title of executive director" and was being given the title of "Founder" instead - and that Scientology organizations owed him money.

Scientology's lawyers - including prominent Boston attorney Earle C. Cooley - raided and searched the homes of Scientology critics in Virginia, Colorado, and California and seized their computer disks.
Scientology teaches that humans first came to the earth from outer space 75 million years ago, sent into exile here by an evil warlord named Xenu, according to church documents. The church also teaches members to communicate with plants, zoo animals, and inanimate objects such as ashtrays. But these esoteric secrets have only recently been revealed publicly, because the Church of Scientology for decades used copyright lawsuits and other measures to keep them under wraps.
