On This Day in Scientology History - January 3
Jennifer Lopez is planning to give birth to her first child naturally, quiet, and free from painkillers. The 38-year-old actress will be following in the footsteps of Katie Holmes, who was forced to keep quiet during the birth of her first child with Scientology-fanatic husband Tom Cruise. Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony are also devoted followers of the religion, Scientology, where it is believed that loud hospital environments, and doctor's shouts of 'push push' can have damaging effects on a newborn later in life.
It is not just the pounds 80 million price tag which is putting them off. The script is from a book by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. Travolta has long been the controversial sect's most high-profile supporter.

A few days before the preliminary inquiry into charges that Scientology had stolen documents in Canada, Kathleen Lepp, who was charged jointly with the Church of Scientology of Toronto and with members Jacqueline Matz (AKA Baillie), Susan Leah Lemieux, and Michael Symington on count 4 [theft from the Canadian Mental Health Association], appeared with her counsel before Provincial Court Judge R. B. Dnieper. It was Ms. Lepp's intention, apparently, to enter a guilty plea to the offence charged in count 4. Counsel for the church and four of the other defendants sought leave to make representations to the presiding judge, for an order enjoining the counsel for the Crown and Ms. Lepp from mentioning the names of the co-accused, or directing the media not to publish such names or other information on their alleged role in the offence, until the trial of the co-accused had been completed.
