Does John Travolta Want To Give You Space Cooties?

John Travolta believes his body is infested with the spirits of space aliens.

One of the high-level secret teachings of Scientology is called "OT III", or "The Wall of Fire." It says that 75 million years ago, an alien tyrant named Xenu captured millions of beings and blew them up. Their spirits (called "thetans" in Scientology) attached themselves to human beings. (LA Times, 6/24/90) John Travolta has gone past this level - he was reportedly on OT V in 1990. You can see a picture of him in a Scientology auditing session, with a folder marked "OT III", on the Internet.

He actively promotes Scientology.

John credits Scientology with reviving his career, keeping him off drugs, and helping him in every area of his life, from his marriage to learning to fly:

  • "The only reason I didn't end up like Elvis or Marilyn is because of Scientology." - Good Housekeeping, January 1997
  • "I never got into the drug scene because I had it [Scientology] to lean on." - Oprah, 11/30/98
  • "Scientology put me in the big time." - Scientology press release, 6/30/97
  • He thanked Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard when he won Blockbuster’s World Artist Award. - Blockbuster awards program, 6/17/99
  • He thanked Hubbard when he won his Golden Globe for Get Shorty. - Frankfurt New Press, 4/4/98
  • "I have been a successful actor for 17 years and Scientology has played a major role in that success. I have a wonderful child and a great marriage because I apply L. Ron Hubbard’s technology to this area of my life." - Scientology web site
  • "I don't think I become--I could have become a jet pilot without knowing that [Scientology study techniques]." - Hollywood.com interview
  • He promotes Scientology books, such as "Fundamentals of Thought" (Oprah, Feb ‘98), "What is Scientology?" (Oprah, 11/30/98), and "Scientology: A New Slant on Life" (Scientology press release, 6/30/97)

Scientology shows John and his family as "lifetime members" in advertisements.

    He intervenes for Scientology.

John met with President Clinton and National Security Advisor Sandy Berger seeking the US government’s opposition to Germany’s scrutiny of Scientology. - St. Petersburg Times, 3/29/98

He testified before a US Senate committee on religious persecution in Germany, claiming that literature calling for minority religions to be "stamped out like insects" had been "indirectly approved" by the German government. - AP, Reuters, CNN

He asked a British TV station not to run a documentary on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, saying the channel’s executives were prepared to slander him and all Scientologists and were inciting hatred. - The Independent, 11/9/97

"When one stage of a court case in Oregon went against Scientology, Travolta flew up to speak at a news conference." - Premiere, Sept 1993

    He lies about Scientology.

He said you can be a Catholic, Protestant, or Baptist and a Scientologist at the same time (Oprah Winfrey show, Nov. ‘96). In fact, ‘...Scientologists are expected to and do become fully devoted to Scientology to the exclusion of other faiths. As Scientologists, they are required to look only to Scientology Scriptures for the answers to the fundamental questions of their existence and to seek enlightenment only from Scientology." (secret IRS agreement, 10/1/93) Upper-level Scientologists learn that Christ and Christianity were part of an implant (the "R6" implant) given to us by space aliens; Hubbard says "There was no Christ." (10/3/68, Class VIII lecture #10, "Assists", )

On the same show, he said "anybody can do it. It's not-it's not restricted at all." In fact, Scientology’s upper levels are highly restricted and highly confidential - Scientology has filed trade secret lawsuits to try to keep them secret - and Scientology agents, following Scientology policy, have infiltrated splinter groups practicing Scientology on their own and tried to destroy them. (LA Times, 6/29/90)

He denied knowing that "thetans" are space aliens (The Big Question, BBC1, 1/25/98). In fact, as described above, John is well aware of the Xenu story and the "body thetans." He’s done Scientology processes to get rid of his own "body thetans."

He claimed Scientology has 8 million members and those who claim Scientology is a cult are "5 or 6 people paid to attach the church." (Charlie Rose, 1/4/99) In fact, Scientology has fewer than 200,000 members, and there are far more than 5 or 6 people who give their time and money to oppose Scientology’s criminal and deceptive acts.

    Why does he do this?

Extortion? Some people think John is being blackmailed. "High-level defectors claim that Travolta has long feared that if he defected, details of his sexual life would be made public." - Time Magazine, 5/6/91

Money? Celebrities (like other Scientologists) get 10-15% commissions on payments and donations from members they bring into Scientology. They also get some free services and access to posh accommodations at Scientology’s Celebrity Centres.

Ignorance? It’s also possible that he’s just unaware of Scientology’s criminal and deceptive actions. However, the dark side of Scientology comes up often in interviews. Isn’t it John’s responsibility to fully inform himself about the dangers of the organization he promotes?
