U.S., Edwin D. Eshleman, J. Edgar Hoover, FBI:

Date: December 6, 1968
U.S. congressman Edwin D. Eshleman writes to J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI: "Constituents of mine have contacted me about the Hubbard Scientology Organization in New York at the Hotel Martinique, Broadway and 32nd Street. They are extremely concerned about their training and procedures. I am confident you are aware of this organization. The purpose of this letter is to ask what has been done about investigating this school and others they evidently operate in the United States. What action is contemplated for the future? It seems to me that it should be possible to prove that this organization is not a religion. If legislation should be required, I am most ready and willing to cooperate in introducing whatever might be required."
