THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 1997
Three investigative depositions were conducted on this date at the State Attorney's
Office on 49th Street. Present were Assistant State Attorney Mark McGarry, FDLE
Agent Lee Strope, and myself. The following people were deposed:
Patrizia Strecener, W/F, DOB 1/4/61
Originally from Italy but currently resides at the Church of Scientology housing
facility at the Quality Inn on U.S. 19 North near Tri-City Plaza.
Background: Became involved in 1990 with the Church of Scientology in Italy,
where her job title was Financial Consultant. Moved to Clearwater during the latter
part of 1990. Was previously a Tech Page (driver for Church) at the Church in
Clearwater but is now an Auditor in training.
Involvement With Lisa McPherson: Was at the Church at 210 S. Ft. Harrison
Avenue around Thanksgiving Day or the day after in 1995 when she was approached
by someone who told her to report to the office of Alain Kartuzinski, the Senior Case
Supervisor. At Kartuzinski's office, she was advised that she would be involved in the
watch of a mentally disturbed person by the name of Lisa McPherson. The orders

were reiterated by Gabriel Sanchez. She began the watch at 11:00 p.m. on
11/24/95, and worked until 5:00 a.m. on 11/25/95. She worked with another
female named Anna during that period of time and did not conduct any other
watches. We asked who she felt was responsible for Lisa's condition and the cycle.
She stated that Dr. Janis Johnson was responsible for Lisa's medical health, and
that Alain Kartuzinski was responsible for the cycle and the psychological effects.
When she first arrived in Lisa's room, Lisa began to vomit. The room was very dark,
which made it hard to see, and she called Security to get help for Lisa. P.K. arrived
with a flashlight and the vomit was examined to determine if there was any blood in
it. No blood was found in the vomit. I asked who P.K. was and she stated it was Paul
Kellerhaus, Chief of Security. Dr. Janis Johnson arrived shortly thereafter, examined
Lisa, and indicated that she would be okay. According to Patrizia, she herself did not
write any daily watch reports but wrote a report after Lisa's death as requested by
Marcus Quirino, Deputy Chief of Operations for FLAG, and gave it to him.
The deposition with Patrizia Strecener was recorded by a court reporter. See
transcript for further details.
Silvia DelaVega, H/F, DOB 11/20/52
Currently lives in Mexico City but is in Clearwater at this time at the request of law
enforcement. While in Clearwater, she is staying at the Church of Scientology at 210

the Church. In 1990, she joined the Church in Mexico City as a public member. She

came to Clearwater in 1993 as a staff person with the title of Staff College Course
Administrator.
Involvement With Lisa McPherson: First became involved in the watch of Lisa
McPherson on Thanksgiving Day in 1995 sometime around lunch time. She was
approached by Alain Kartuzinski at that time and told to do the watch for a few hours
so the others could take a break. She was told by Kartuzinski that Lisa was not to
leave the room, the room was to be kept dark, and that no one was to speak to Lisa
because she was suffering from a psychotic breakdown. We asked if she had written
any reports regarding her watches. She stated yes, that she had written at least
three reports. I provided her with a copy of each report supplied to us under our
subpoenas from the Church, at which time she indicated that none of them were
hers. Assistant State Attorney McGarry requested her permission to view her reports
if we could obtain them from the Church and she agreed. When asked if she at
anytime felt Lisa needed medical attention, she stated that she believed Lisa was
getting medical attention from Dr. Janis Johnson. Regarding the length of her watch
of Lisa, she stated that she watched Lisa for a few hours on Thanksgiving Day in
1995. She had a meeting the following day (Friday, 11/24/95) in Alain Kartuzinski's
office with several other people. At that time, she was put on a regular watch
schedule by Kartuzinski. She reported for her watch on Saturday, 11/25/95,
Sunday, 11/26/95, Monday, 11/27/95, Tuesday, 11/28/95, Wednesday, 11/29/95,
Thursday, 11/30/95, and Friday, 12/1/95, during which time she never left Lisa's
room other than going to the room next door occasionally to get some food and a nap.
When asked about Rita Boykin's statement that she (Silvia) was not very solid, Silvia
indicated that she was completely exhausted at the time from being with Lisa around
the clock and needed to have time off.

Laura Arrunada, H/F, DOB 11/4/58
She currently resides in Mexico City but is in Clearwater at this time at the request of
law enforcement.
Background: She has four years of college and three years at the University of
Michacan Medical School near Mexico City, where she graduated in 1985. However,
she never took the Medical Boards in Mexico to practice as a doctor. She came to the
Church of Scientology in Clearwater in October 1994 and was assigned to the MLO
on 11/22/94. She was assigned as an assistant to Judy Goldsberry-Weber, who was
in charge of the MLO. A short time later, Judy Goldsberry-Weber was replaced by
Susanne Schnurenberger as being in charge of the MLO. While Laura Arrunada was
watching over Lisa, Janis Johnson was the Staff MLO and Emma Schumerhorn was
the Public MLO. While in Clearwater, she was promoted from an assistant in the
MW to the Assistant Office Manager under the supervision of Susanne
Schnurenberger.
Involvement With Lisa McPherson: Laura did not write any reports regarding Lisa.
She spent a quite a bit of time with Lisa and attended the meeting in Alain
Kartuzinski's office regarding who would be doing the watches. The first time she
entered Lisa's room, Lisa had just gone into the bathroom. She went into the
bathroom to see what Lisa was doing and saw her drinking the urine she had just
passed. She indicated that Lisa had to be restrained numerous times. During one
watch, Lisa tried to break the hotel room window and then tried to get out of the

door. However, she grabbed Lisa and brought her back to the bed. During the end of
the watches in early December, she was feeding Lisa protein shakes with a large item
similar to a turkey baster. When she left Lisa's room at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday
morning, 12/5/95, Lisa was okay. When she returned at 5:00 p.m., Heather was
giving Lisa a bath. At that time, she noticed that Lisa had shit herself and her anus
was very relaxed. She left Lisa's room at that point and went to the MLO to tell Janis
Johnson about Lisa's relaxed anus. Janis Johnson went to Lisa's room sometime
around 7:00 p.m. At approximately 8:00 p.m., Paul Greenwood and Janis Johnson
came back with Janis's van and they loaded Lisa into the van to take her to the
hospital. She went with Paul Greenwood and Janis Johnson in the van and was
taking Lisa's pulse during the trip. She felt that Lisa was breathing during the trip.
It should be noted that Laura's testimony seemed to have some labored answers and
several of her answers were not consistent with those of other witnesses. I advised
Laura's attorney, Robert Poli, that I felt Laura was not being entirely truthful and
that we were not sure why. I questioned Laura about all of the demotions that
occurred after Lisa's death, that being of Janis Johnson, Arthur Baxter, and Alain
Kartuzinski. She stated that she was not sure but believed the demotions were the
result of an investigation by the Church in which the Church felt they had done
something wrong.
The deposition with Laura Arrunada was recorded by a Court Reporter. See
transcript for further details.
